A group of like-minded musicians whose writing has a distinct, artistic feel, AmatrArt are readying themselves for a new double single to be released this week – ‘Mirror’/’Soft Skin’. This is a group with real momentum at present, as their appearance at T in the Park attests. And now, here’s a chance to get to know them better.

  1. Where and when did you first discover your interest music?

As friends and as a band our interest in music is what brought us together. The answer is different for each of us but personally I (Lewis) took an interest in drums at about 12 years old and decided pretty quickly that music was what I was going to do. I threw myself into as many musical situations as possible which is how I ended up meeting the other guys who all already knew each other.

  1. What are your main ambitions in the industry?

Ideally we’d like to be able to do this for a living. We all work other jobs right now, but to be able to work on our art full time would be amazing.

  1. When did you start writing your own songs/music?

Some of us have been in different bands for years, but we’ve always had songs on the go together even from before we were a fully formed band. As childhood friends with a shared love of music it just sort of happened.

  1. What would you say is your music career highlight to date?
Playing T in the Park was pretty special for us. It’s sort of our “local” big festival and we’ve all been over the years, so to be there as performers was a real treat.

  1. Who will we hear in your songs? What are your influences?
We try not to focus too much on copying other sounds but what we like and listen to definitely comes through in our music. We’re big fans of Warpaint, Foals, Radiohead, NAO.

  1. What’s the most important thing you’d want to tell people about your current release?

We’re releasing it on vinyl! We’re really excited about this as it’s such a cool format and it’s the first vinyl to be put out by our label Bloc Music.

  1. Who else can you recommend from your genre or local area for people to have a listen to?

Glasgow has a great music scene right now! The Vegan Leather, Earths, Martha Ffion, Catholic Action, Mayor Stubbs, The Van T’s, Happy Meals, Spinning Coin.

  1. Any gigs coming up?
We’re playing Inverness on Sunday for Hoot’s Easter Gig in Hootananny on Sunday 27th March, there are loads of great bands playing over 2 stages. We are also gearing up for our AA Side single launch show in The Hug and Pint on April 29th with The Vegan Leather
