American thrash crossover band Prong consisting of vocalist/guitarist Tommy Victor, bassist Mike Longworth and drummer Art Cruz, are back with their brand new full length album, Prong’s twelfth overall, ZERO DAYS. When you’ve been around since 1987, even with a break or two along the line, there’s an immense amount of pressure for your records to perform.

A 13 length journey, ZERO DAYS wastes no time getting into it with ‘However It May End‘ going hard straight away and setting the tone for the majority of the tracks – true metal.

All tracks a combo of a guitar, drums with a vocal accompaniment, this makes it sound simple although it’s not that like that in the slightest. Prong carved distinct heavy beats in each track, almost cinematic effect at times, notably in the title track itself, ‘ZERO DAYS’. Even metal newcomers will be able to feel the distinct tracks.

Many tracks deserve their own mention, ‘Off The Grid‘ is one of the most memorable of the tracks with many layers and entangled sounds making a song you want to listen to again and again. ‘Intervening’ is strong, ‘Blood Out of a Stone’ is the stand out track of the record, feeling like a true crossover track – as does ‘Whispers‘. This creates a nice mix of heavy metal and a nice welcoming mix for those new to Prong.

However, ‘Divide and Conquer’ feels like an album track, this isn’t always a bad thing but likely won’t be the one you have on repeat.

Tommy Victor, Prong‘s sole constant member, claims to have the anthems, the bangers, the thrashers and the grooves, meaning it has something for everyone but that also means the entire record may not be something everyone likes, although only a select few albums fit into that category.

Tommy Victor days that he just wanted them to make good music on this record, we can safely say for Prong fans that they succeeded, if you’re a new fan, or new to metal, you might want to start elsewhere but remember this one for down the line.

Prong can be seen on tour this summer all over Europe.
