Former Blur and Gorillaz front man Damon Albarn last night lifted the lid on his first solo album last night, playing a selection of tracks in his headline slot at the BBC 6 Music Festival.
Describing the upcoming album as ‘the most personal in my career’ (which is to be expected from an inaugural solo album I suppose), the tracks were pared back, raw and contemplative – a glimpse into the possible approach of the album itself, titled Everyday Robots. The LP is due around the end of April.
In interviews before the gig, Albarn marked out the songs as autobiographical and based on personal experience, ‘some of it quite dark, some of it joyous’. It marks a milestone in his 25 year career, looking back on a storied career with a brand new band line up he will be calling The Heavy Seas.
The BBC 6 Music continues throughout the weekend – we recommend you get online for a piece of the action!
