The first record Elvis Presley ever made – a $4 recording of ‘My Happiness’ and ‘That’s When Your Heartaches Begin’ on acetate – has sold at auction for $300,000 (£198,000).

It’s the first time the recording has been on sale, and was sold to an unnamed bidder on what would’ve been his 80th birthday. The auction was held at Graceland, where Presley used to live.

The recording, a gift for his mother, was also something of an experiment to see how his voice sounded on record. It was recorded in 1953 when he was just 18 years old.

Presley was said to have made the recording partly as a present for his mother.
