2018 looks set to be another smashing year for the Cambridge Folk Festival, now in its 53rd year, and each year full of mind-blowingly talented artists filling up all the stages, this year being no different.
Set in the beautiful grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall in stunning Cambridge, The Cambridge Folk Festival has something for everyone and without doubt is an institution given its rich history. Although it has grown in size and format steadily with each year since the first festival in 1965, it still retains the general ethos of a loose, relaxed festival scene. For that reason, it continues to draw larger and more diverse festival goers because its reputation intrigues and inspires so many to seek it out.
This year the line up will be equally magnificent on the main stages:
Friday-Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band, First Aid Kit, Gordie Mackeenman And His Rhythm Boys, Irish Mythen, John Smith, National Youth Folk Ensemble, Pierce Brothers, Rosanne Cash, Songhoy Blues, St. Paul & The Broken Bones
Saturday-Darlingside, Darren Eedens & The Slim Pickn’s, Elephant Sessions, Eric Bibb, John Moreland, Patti Smith, Rhiannon Giddens, The East Pointers, The Shee
Sunday-Beth Neilsen Chapman, Damien O’Kane & Ron Block, Janis Ian, John Prine, Kate Rusby & Friends, Peatbog Faeries, Tamikrest
With still more acts to be announced!
As always, there will be other stages that really support a range of artists that should not be missed. The Den is devoted to younger artists under 30 which is a smaller and more intimate space but a wholly charming venue to help the performers foster their careers and get them in touch with their audiences. The Hub is also for young performers but also offers workshops and sessions along with performances too. The Club Tent features local artists from the county throughout the festival weekend which reinforces the connection to local folk music club community.
The Festival never disappoints and always features such inspirational and truly phenomenal artists so find your way there this year, you will be treated to a knock out weekend!
