It’s not often that an artist brings out a debut solo album at the age of 71, but that’s the case for Jerry Lawson – perhaps the greatest vocalist of his generation you haven’t heard of. The reason is that he made his name as part of vocal groups The Persuasions and Talk of the Town, but is now striking out on his own with 13 track LP ‘Just A Mortal Man’.

A veteran of studio and stage, Jerry Lawson has had an incredible career, performing with legends such as Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell and countless others as part of one of the most influential vocal groups of its time. As a solo performer, his years of experience add a gravitas to his stunning, smooth vocal.

Endlessly compelling and impossible to resist, it’s the kind of voice that you will never tire of. Spanning blues, country, folk, gospel, reggae and more, the album sees Jerry Lawson on sparkling form. Out on Monday, the album has been a long time coming, but it’s an LP that’s well worth the wait.
