Leeds newcomers Cruel World have shared their debut single ‘Boxer‘ alongside a number of UK festival appearances. The new band, made up of a number of Leeds music veterans have been locked away working on new music since they first got together in a room in September 2017 getting ready to share their music with the world.
The band recently performed the first show at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club opening for Bella Union / K Records aritst Karl Blau, who so enjoyed their first show he asked them to back him up for half of his set, to which the band very happily obliged.
Cruel World are a fairly uninspiring bunch to look at. People have been looking at the same variations of this shot for the last 50 years at least. They’re not the most important voice you should be listening to in the modern world and sonically speaking, they break very little new ground, if any. That doesn’t mean they’re not unique, and it doesn’t mean they haven’t got something to say (if you can believe it!). It just means they’re aware of what they are and where they stand in the modern world. They’re grateful and they don’t take it for granted. For Cruel World, song is king. They’re dedicated to their craft and that’s why they sound a bit like Wilco sometimes.
Cruel World will follow their first show and single with a number of appearances at UK festivals including a main stage performance at Blue Dot Festival at the Jodrell Bank space observatory and Kendal Calling as well as a support slot with Lucy Dacus at The Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds.
More Cruel World music and shows will be announced in due course.
