Picture this; you’re a musician who has music ready to be released or is currently working on musical projects. Either way, you want to get your name and your music out in this big world. In this day and age, there are so many different ways to promote yourself as a musician and your musical image, but you want to make sure you do it the right way.

Getting your music image right

Firstly, you need to think about your image- what style do you want to encapsulate? You cannot be vague about this otherwise consumers/listeners will be confused about what you stand for. Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to put yourself into a tiny box, where you only stick to one genre/style of music- be free to explore and experiment with all kinds of genres of music, but you should promote yourself in this way. Promote yourself as a musician that is free and open to playing/writing for different genres/styles.

On the other hand, if you’re more than happy to stick to one style of music then you need to promote yourself this way too. This is a decision you need to make yourself before you go ahead with advertising your art.

Promoting yourself on music blogs & magazines

In this day and technological age, there is a plethora of online platforms you can use to promote yourself effectively. Social media has become a haven for artists to sell and stream their music to listeners. But for fans to get to properly know the artist and see what the artist is like, personality wise, there are music publications (online, in magazines, in newspapers etc.) that will conduct interviews for these artists.

Our own Indie Music News blog is a great example of this, be sure to check out the Artist Interviews section.

Something to consider: You may be offered an interview by a music journalist and this will be great exposure for your image and music. Before you accept any interview offer, you should do some research behind the music publication and even the journalist. You should make sure that the publication and journalist are reputable in a positive way, otherwise that could do more harm than good. But not to worry! Most professional publications and journalists will treat you in a respectful manner and will help promote your personality and music well.

How to promote yourself as a musician on social media

While there are music publications and journalists out there who can help give you exposure, most of the time, artists will promote themselves and their music through social media- you’ll find that any new artist will have; a Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram, YouTube channel and so many more social media pages.

The great thing about promoting yourself this way is that you control what is said and shown and how you want to promote your image and music. Having a social media presence does help fans find out who you are and where they can listen to your music.

Promoting yourself by selling your music online

Which brings me to my final point, one of the most important ways you can promote yourself the right way is actually putting your music out there. Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, YouTube etc. are the most used and popular platforms for people to listen to your songs. The Music Site can help you get your music onto to all these stores without breaking the bank with our cheap music distribution

So make sure you show off your music and songs to the world, the more you promote yourself as a musician, the more likely you’ll be seen.
